Tirana

Tirana is the captial of Albania and the most important political and economic centre in the country. It was founded in 1614 by Sulejman Pasha of Mullet but remained unimportant until 1920 when it was proclaimed capital due to its geographical position more or less in the middle of the country. In recent years Tirana has been totally transformed from a grey dull communist-style city, to a modern, colorful and uplifting European influenced capital. In Tirana you can visit: National Historical Museum, Ethem Bey Mosque, Clock Tower, Ministries’ Complex, Blloku, the colourful apartment blocks, The Park etc. Tirana International Airport is located 20 km from the city itself.
